Once micro-processes have been properly defined, they may devolve into one or more work assignments (assignable to a single individual) or tasks and events (assignable to teams). These tasks can specify their predecessors, and also the resource qualities required for their execution (talent, skill, knowledge pre-requisites) and estimates of their duration. If this exercise is taken to its logical conclusion in the planning stage of the project, it is possible to arrive at the activity network and the critical path through it.
Each activity can then be encoded into a Control Sheet, which specifies the resource(s) to be used for its execution. During this process, an opportunity exists to optimize the resource assignment, and Genesis offers several features to identify possible candidates to whom work can be assigned. Resource loading is also a factor in real world projects; since resources may be shared across projects, their calendars become important in the planning stage of the project of interest.
Control sheets can be monitored for their impact on project schedules, and when they are executed, the time gained or lost can contribute to rescheduling.
